Ultrafast and Nonlinear Spectroscopy of Solids with Small Energy Photons
نویسنده
چکیده
Ultrashort pulses of intense, coherent, and tunable far-infrared (FIR) and mid-infrared (MIR) radiation, achievable with freeelectron lasers (FELs) and optical parametric amplifiers (OPAs), provide unique opportunities to investigate low energy dynamics in solids. This paper reviews our recent experiments on bulk and quantum-confined semiconductors using such radiation. These experiments include: FIR spectroscopy of transient plasmas and magneto-plasmas, picosecond time-resolved cyclotron resonance, sideband and harmonic generation, the dynamical Franz-Keldysh effect, and AC ionization dynamics of quantum-well excitons.

متن کاملMid-infrared Ultrafast and Nonlinear Spectroscopy of Semiconductors
The advent of long-wavelength coherent sources, such as free-electron lasers, optical parametric amplifiers, and Terahertz antennas, has created a new class of opportunities to study small-energy phenomena in solids in the time domain and/or high-intensity regimes. Long-wavelength light can couple with a wide variety of electronic and vibrational excitations in solids. This paper reviews our re...
متن کاملUltrafast Third Harmonic Micro-spectroscopy Reveals a Two-Photon Resonance in Human Hemoglobin
The recently developed technique of ultrafast third harmonic generation (THG) micro-spectroscopy is discussed. The approach is easily adapted to a standard laser scanning microscope and allows for two and three photon resonances to be identified in non-fluorescent unlabeled samples. This work provides nonlinear microscopists with a tool for further understanding the contrast and damage mechanis...
متن کاملInfluence of Interface Thermal Resistance on Relaxation Dynamics of Metal-Dielectric Nanocomposite Materials under Ultrafast Pulse Laser Excitation
Nanocomposite materials, including noble metal nanoparticles embedded in a dielectric host medium, are interesting because of their optical properties linked to surface plasmon resonance phenomena. For studding of nonlinear optical properties and/or energy transfer process, these materials may be excited by ultrashort pulse laser with a temporal width varying from some femtoseconds to some hund...
متن کاملThe Electronic and Optical Properties of Close Packed Cadmium Selenide Quantum
The synthesis, structural characterization, optical spectroscopy, and electronic characterization of close packed solids prepared from CdSe QD samples tunable in size from 17 to 150 A in diameter (a<4.5%) are presented. We control the deposition of 3D QD glasses and superlattices by tailoring the solvent composition used to deposit the QD solids. We use high resolution scanning and transmission...
